What to Bring to Tournaments? 

FOUR ITEMS - MUST HAVE TO PARTICIPATE

 You will need to CHECK IN with the Tournament Director when you arrive on site
  with ALL the required paperwork.  You will NOT be allowed to participate without it.
  You are required to bring a copy to EACH NSA Tournament you participate in.
 
    It is the Coach/Managers responsibility to bring the following paperwork to EACH tournament.
    The team will not be allowed to participate without it.

1.  COPY of your NSA Online roster, printed with signatures of parents or guardians
     and players 18 years and older will sign for themselves.  
    
Once you attain signatures I suggest you make MULTIPLE copies of your roster.
     You will be required to turn in a copy and it will NOT be returned to you.

2.  COPY of your Team Insurance Certificate. 

     Once you have your certificate, I suggest you make MULTIPLE copies.

     You will be required to turn in a copy and it will NOT be returned to you.

    
INSURANCE:  ALL Teams participating in NSA tournaments must supply proof of team insurance coverage.
    New for 2016 it is required that all teams have NSA/Westpoint coverage to participate in NSA events.
    Michigan NSA is doing everything we can to help teams meet these requirements - please see Q & A.  

       2016 Insurance Requirement & Michigan NSA Tournaments  Q & A:
   
  a.  Any team can play with a 2016 NSA Sanction - You do not need to do anything else.
            Michigan NSA will provide your team with NSA/Westpoint Weekend Program to meet the
            insurance requirement for that weekend. 
            This will only cover your team for the WEEKEND you play NSA. 
            If you play out of state, please contact that director to see if they offer the Weekend Program.

       b.  If your team has a NSA/Westpoint yearly insurance policy you will receive $25 OFF
           every Michigan NSA tournament they enter
.   This will cover your team for practices
           and your team will have medical coverage for any softball event for the 2016 season.
                  Note:  ASA may require that you purchase their insurance.  Contact them directly.

NSA/Westpoint Quantity or League INSURANCE DISCOUNTS for a Year Policy:

Please remember to take advantage of the discounted Quantity/League rate.
1.
  4 or more teams from an organization that purchases insurance at one time.

 
2.  If you are an individual team, your team can take still take advantage of the
Quanity/League Discount.  We have set up a LEAGUE you can join to get the quantity/league
rate, CALL Westpoint 800-318-7709 and ask for Angela or Annmarie -
tell them you are joining the Michigan NSA Fastpitch League to get the discount.

           Your team will need to have their current sanction number in order to
           purchase NSA/Westpoint Insurance.
           
            Teams may benefit by taking advantage of the $25 off Michigan NSA Tournaments by
            having a yearly NSA/Westpoint insurance policy.

Note Regarding Insurance:  Proof of Coverage must show amount of coverage as on
an actual certificate.  A LETTER stating you have team insurance IS NOT ACCEPTABLE -

INDIVIDUAL Player Insurance Cards are NOT ACCEPTABLE - If your team has Individual
Player Insurance cards, you
need to contact your Insurance company and request a
CERTIFICATE of Insurance for the team
to submit for NSA play.
Teams will NOT be allowed to participate without proper proof of team insurance

3.  You will need to bring copies of players Birth Certificates or Government issue 
     photo ID's - for older players, please make sure they have their Driver's License
     with them. 
NSA does NOT need copies of these, you need to have them on hand
     in case of protest. 
 
4.  GATE FEES:  Tournaments will be taking traditional gate/admission fees per person or per vehicle -or- using
     PRE-PAY Gate Fees:  This is meant for parents/spectators to be able to raise funds during the winter &
     to pay gate fees at one time BEFORE the Tournament BEGINS.  It usually is done at check in, but please see
     the payment Options for this year...
     Indiana has done this for many years and teams/parents like it - teams are required to pay ONE FEE for the
     tournament admission/gate fees.  NO passes to keep track of, no hassles at gate for spectators or coaches.
    
    Beginning in 2015 MOST of the Michigan NSA tournaments will be using the PRE-PAY system
    Check the tournament details for specific information on the tournaments you will be playing in.
   
   PRE-PAY Gate - Payment Options in 2015:

     a.  Write a SEPARATE CHECK for the PRE-PAY Gate fees and turn it in PRIOR to the start of the tournament
          during the team check in process.  This can be done by the coach or team/parent representative.
          TAKE CARE to make payable to the correct organization for the correct amount.

     b.  Write a SEPARATE CHECK for the PRE-PAY Gate fees and mail it in with your Tournament Entry Payment.

     c.   SOME tournaments are allowed to make one CHARGE PAYMENT for the Pre-pay Gate Fees - 2 WEEKS PRIOR.
     d.   SOME tournaments will give a discount for ONE cash payment turned in PRIOR to the start of the tournament
           during the check in process.

    PRE-PAY Gate Fees:  MAIL IN - AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO START OF TOURNAMENT.
   
If the check has not been received in the NSA Office 1 week prior, the team will still need to pay at the site.

EQUIPMENT NOTICE:   NSA Approved Equipment List 
 
STARTED JANUARY 1, 2015 - APPROVED BATS & APPROVED BAT COMPANY LIST
Only companies that have signed the NSA contract are approve for use and listed on the Approved Bat
Companies List at PlayNSA.com - Click on Equipment Bats & Balls.  This list will NOT change during the YEAR.

1. 
The bat MUST be from a company on the Approved Bat Company List.
2. 
Only BATS from these companies with the 2012 NSA Logo or STAMP on them
     (Outline of
United States & NSA 2012) will be allowed.   The NSA bat logo has been put on bats since 2011.

Note:  It is the coaches/players' responsibility to check their bats for Approved Company and the stamp
          prior to bringing them into play.

Adding Players to your roster
- This may be done anytime during the season before the State Tournament.
A NEW COPY of your roster must be provided to the NSA Tournament Director BEFORE THE NEW PLAYER PARTICIPATES.
Once you have filled your roster (25 Players) you cannot add any additional players. 
Player’s names do NOT get deleted from the roster for any reason.  Not even if you release a player, injury, relocation or if the player quits the team. 
For questions regarding adding players after the State Tournament, please contact the NSA State Office.
IF you add a new player, you can print the roster, attain signatures of the parent or guardian
(if player is 18 years of age or older - they will need to sign themselves)
, make copies and
attach to your roster with the other parent signatures - you will turn in two pages for your roster the
next time you participate.  PLAYERS CANNOT BE HAND WRITTEN ON THE ROSTER, all players must
be entered into the ONLINE Roster with all information complete and correct - then printed with signatures to be eligible.

  • Players cannot be listed on two NSA rosters at one time without an official Player Release form on file in State Office and APPROVED by the State Director before the player participates with the new team.
    This is an ineligible/illegal player.    PLAYER AND COACH WILL BE SUSPENDED FOR 1 YEAR.
  • Players cannot play on two different AGE GROUPS with in the same organization.
    Players CANNOT be borrowed for a weekend. 
    Even IF they are age eligible to play both age divisions.
    Examples: A 14 year old cannot play one weekend with the 14u team, and then play a different weekend with the 16u team because they need players for a particular weekend.    
     Players cannot play on a 12u team and a 14u team on the same weekend.
    This is an ineligible/illegal player.    PLAYER AND COACH WILL BE SUSPENDED FOR 1 YEAR.
     
  • Players participating that are not listed on the Official NSA ONLINE Roster will be considered an ineligible/illegal player.  PLAYER AND COACH WILL BE SUSPENDED FOR 1 YEAR.
    PLEASE WATCH THIS AS PLAYERS NOT LISTED ON YOUR ROSTER WILL NOT BE COVERED ON YOUR INSURANCE!
    ALL players participating in NSA tournaments must be listed on the official NSA Online Roster.  All players 18 years or older must sign their own name, and if under the age of 18 must have parent or legal guardian signature in order to participate.
     
  • Players participating under an assumed name or "borrowing a jersey" for the weekend without being listed correctly on the NSA Online Roster will be considered and ineligible/illegal player.  PLAYER and COACH WILL BE SUSPENDED FOR 1 YEAR.  PLEASE WATCH THIS AS PLAYERS NOT LISTED ON YOUR ROSTER WILL NOT BE COVERED ON YOUR INSURANCE!
     
  • Player Release Form - it is possible for a player to be released from their current team to participate with a NEW TEAM or AGE GROUP. It can only be done one time from September 1st to December 31st and one time from January 1st to August 31st.  A Player Release Form must be signed by the current coach, player, and parent, it must also be approved by your State Director, PRIOR to the change in team.    Contact your State Director for guidance.  Pick up of certain players could change your teams’ classification by changing the overall strength of your team.

NOTE: Once a player has been released from a team, they cannot change teams again during the
          1/2 of the season.   This means they cannot go back to the original team.
 
          Players cannot be released from an “A” team to play with a “B” team.

  • 18u Teams - Any team with a player on the roster  that has participated on a COLLEGE SOFTBALL TEAM MUST participate in "A" Classification.

NSA Tournament Information 


  •  All NSA tournaments are filled on a first-come first-PAID in full basis. 
     Entries are accepted in the order that payment is received.
  • Entering a tournament online does NOT HOLD YOUR SPOT!
    Tournament Entries will not be accepted until FULL payment is received
    .  

    Once you enter tournaments online, your spot is NOT held until full payment is received in our office!
    MI NSA Teams have the option to pay for entry fees online by charge.  See Pay by Charge
  • Any tournament may become "FULL" before the Tournament Entry Deadline if there has been sufficient
    entries into the tournament to fill the capacity of the park hosting it.

  • NSA reserves the right to combine A & B divisions in a tournament if deemed necessary.
    NSA reserves the right to separate A & B division in a tournament if deemed warranted.

  • Tournament entries that are received after the "Tournament Deadline" may be returned.
  • Tournament entries that are incomplete or have been received without payment/incorrect payment will
    be returned. Regardless of when the NSA Office receives the original entry - the Early Entry Discount Date
    will be determined when the corrected entry is received.
  • The Tournament Director reserves the right to rule on matters as they occur, including any
    deemed necessary to complete the tournament.  This includes changing the tournament format due to
    unforeseen circumstances such as weather, etc.  
    If an order of finish is determined, the tournament will be considered complete and final.
  • Waiting List -The waiting list is designed for teams that have missed entering a tournament before their
    age group is full.  Teams can be put on a waiting list without payment – if I have a team drop or if I find
    that I can take more teams, I contact the teams in order that they are on the Waiting List.  If I contact
    you and your team has made other plans, I move on to the next team.  If I contact you and your team still
    wants to play, we make payment arrangements at that time.

    You can be put on the waiting list by sending me an email with your team name, age group, tournament
    you want on the waiting list and the BEST phone number to contact you – OR SIGN UP ONLINE for the
    Tournament if you have not done so already.
  • Brackets are normally posted at least one week prior to the tournament.  Coaches will be emailed when
    they become available, you may also check the BRACKETS link to see if they are available.

  • IF the ONLY Michigan NSA tournament a team is playing in is the State Championship, the team will be
    required to play in the "A" Division.

  • Charge payments This is a service offered for teams wishing to pay by charge, as checks will
    still be accepted by mail.  NOTE: IF you pay by a CHARGE CARD and then request and meet the
    requirements for a REFUND, THE CHARGE CARD WILL BE CREDITED for the refund amount!  
    There are no exceptions. 
    NOTE: If you opt to use a charge, ONLY the amount of the Entry Fee will be considered for
    refund if your team cancels from a tournament.

          Find the tournaments you want and ADD to CART - make sure to continue the check out process
          until the screen says your card has been APPROVED & it gives you an order number.

  • NSF Fees will be $30 per check that is returned to our account.  The team will be suspended until a money
    order or Cashiers check is received for the amount of the original check + $30 fee.

  • There are NO entry refunds or transfer of fees within 30 Days of the tournament or after a tournament or
    age group is marked as FULL, regardless of the number of days from the start of the tournament.
     
    Contact the State Office as soon as you know you need to drop from a tournament, we will try to
    work with you to get your team replaced so you can receive a refund.

    NOTE: Even is a refund is allowed, a $25 Administrative Fee will be retained from Entry Fee if Teams or Coaches
    cancel from a tournament and request a refund, regardless of the payment method.

  • TRANSFERS - IF a TRANSFER is Allowed and your team paid by taking advantage of the early entry discount,
    you can transfer the discounted entry to the NEW tournament if the NEW tournament allowed the discount.
    If the tournament you are transferring to DID NOT OFFER the early entry discount, you will need to pay the difference.

  • Entry in to any NSA tournament constitutes acknowledgement and agreement to the refund policy.

How  MI Teams QUALIFY FOR GFP WORLD Series:
   YOUR TEAM MUST QUALIFY FOR THE NSA WORLD SERIES TOURNAMENTS.

MI NSA World Qualifying Tournaments - SummerTOP 2 in all Qualifying Tournaments receive a World Berth,
Team MUST Participate in State Tournament to validate the Berth to the World Series.
     

MI NSA State Championships - Top 4 finishing teams qualify for the World Series. 
     
Note: Teams not participating in a Michigan NSA qualifier prior to the State, may be required to play in the "A" State Championships.   IF the ONLY Michigan NSA tournament a team is playing in is the State Tournament, the team will be required to play in the "A" Division.


 FALL QUALIFIERS (outside tournaments) Teams that receive a berth MUST meet the following criteria to retain the berth:
          
1.  MUST retain 75% of their roster they qualified with

.  MUST play in at least 1 Michigan NSA qualifier & State Tournament the following calendar year

DOME QUALIFIERS (inside tournaments)  Teams that receive a berth MUST meet the following criteria to retain the berth:
            Dome Tournaments in the FALL/WINTER of the CURRENT year - OCT-NOV-DEC:
           
1.  MUST have participated in the age group they will be playing the following year.
            2.  MUST retain 75% of their roster they qualified with
            3.  MUST play in at least 1 Michigan NSA qualifier & State Tournament the following calendar year
            Dome Tournaments AFTER THE NEW YEAR - JAN-FEB-MARCH-APRIL:
           
1.  MUST have participated in the age group they will be playing during the current year
            2.  ALL NSA Roster rules will apply - Players must be released if leaving team
            3.  MUST play in at least 1 Michigan NSA qualifier & State Tournament

 
       

 NSA NIT Tournaments - 1st Place - receives a "Direct Berth" to World Series and can by-pass the
         State Tournament.  2nd & 3rd Place - Receive a World Series Berth, but MUST participate in the State
         Tournament to validate their berth.


At Large Berths -
Every year Michigan NSA has berths left over for the World Series.  Teams could receive multiple berths by finishing first or second in multiple tournaments and some teams decline berths after receiving them.  Every year we evaluate how to award those left over (At-Large) berths to those teams truly trying to qualify for the NSA World Series.               
   
At Large Berths will be awarded to teams with the following minimal criteria:
          10u -
Participate in 3 MI Qualifiers and NSA State Championships
          12u - Participate in 3 MI Qualifiers and NSA State Championships
          14u - Participate in 3 MI Qualifiers and NSA State Championships
          16u - Participate in 2 MI Qualifier and NSA State Championships
          18u - Participate in 1 MI Qualifier and NSA State Championships

  
HOSTING an NSA Tournament
Host Organizations or teams that host an NSA qualifying tournament are awarded berths based on the overall number of teams participating in the tournament.  Host teams receiving a berth will need to play in at least one additional Michigan NSA Qualifier, PLUS the State Championships in order to validate the berth.

        
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING WORLD SERIES BERTHS:

NOTE: TEAMS CAN BE RECLASSIFIED ANYTIME DURING THE SEASON DUE TO THE OVERALL STRENGTH OF THE TEAM!
         
Please make sure to select the proper classification at the beginning of the year!


PARTICIPATE / PLAY in the STATE TOURNAMENT means a team must physically play in the tournament or lose their berth.  Paying & NOT SHOWING for the STATE TOURNAMENT WILL BE CAUSE FOR YOU TO LOSE YOUR BERTH!
  

PARTICIPATING/PLAYING in your STATE TOURNAMENT ONLY,
DOES NOT Automatically Qualify your team for the World Series.

IF the ONLY Michigan NSA tournament a team is playing in is the State Tournament, the team will be required to play in the "A" Division.
