How Michigan Teams Qualify for World Series

How Michigan Teams Qualify for World Series

Your team must qualify to attend a NSA World Series Tournament, but don't worry there are multiple ways to get to the World Series! You must qualify in one of the following ways:

Michigan NSA State Championships: TOP Four (4) finishing teams in each division qualify for the World Series. If the ONLY Michigan NSA tournament a team is playing in is the State Tournament, the team will be required to play in the "A" Division. Teams not participating in a Michigan NSA qualifier prior to the State, may be required to play in the "A" State Championships.

  • Participating / Play in the STATE TOURNAMENT means a team must physically play in the tournament or lose their berth. Paying & NOT SHOWING for the State Tournament will be cause for you to lose your berth!
  • Participating / Play in the STATE TOURNAMENT ONLY, does NOT Automatically Qualify your team for the World Series.

Michigan NSA World Qualifying SUMMER Tournaments:  TOP Two (2) in all qualifying tournaments receive a World Series Berth. The teams MUST Participate in State Tournament to validate the Berth to the World Series.

Michigan NSA World Qualifying FALL Tournaments: Teams that receive a berth from a Fall Qualifier (Outside Tournament) MUST meet the following criteria to retain the berth:

  • MUST retain 75% of their roster they qualified with
  • MUST play in at least 1 Michigan NSA qualifier & State Tournament the following calendar year

Michigan NSA World Qualifying DOME Tournaments: Teams that receive a berth from a Dome Qualifier (Inside Tournament) MUST meet the following criteria to retain the berth:

Dome Tournaments in the FALL/WINTER of the CURRENT year - OCT-NOV-DEC:

  • MUST have participated in the age group they will be playing the following year.
  • MUST retain 75% of their roster they qualified with
  • MUST play in at least 1 Michigan NSA qualifier & State Tournament the following calendar year

Dome Tournaments AFTER THE NEW YEAR - JAN-FEB-MARCH-APRIL:

  • MUST have participated in the age group they will be playing during the current year
  • ALL NSA Roster rules will apply - Players must be released if leaving team
  • MUST play in at least 1 Michigan NSA qualifier & State Tournament

NSA NIT Tournaments: 1st - 3rd Place receives a Direct Berth to World Series and can by-pass the State Tournament. Other Place Teams receive a World Series Berth, but MUST participate in the State Tournament to validate their berth.

HOSTING an NSA Tournament:  Host Organizations or teams that host an NSA qualifying tournament are awarded berths based on the overall number of teams participating in the tournament. Host teams receiving a berth will need to play in at least one additional Michigan NSA Qualifier, PLUS the State Championships in order to validate the berth.

At Large World Series Berths: Don't meet any of these requirements? Not to worry every year Michigan NSA has berths left over for the World Series! Teams could receive multiple berths by finishing first or second in multiple tournaments and some teams decline berths after receiving them.

At Large Berths will be awarded to teams with the following minimal criteria:

10u - Participate in 2 MI Qualifiers and NSA State Championships

12u - Participate in 2 MI Qualifiers and NSA State Championships

14u - Participate in 2 MI Qualifiers and NSA State Championships

16u - Participate in 1 MI Qualifier and NSA State Championships

18u - Participate in 1 MI Qualifier and NSA State Championships
